mercredi 25 février 2009

City of Sciences in Tunis, organizes within the framework of the World Year of Astronomy, Friday 27th February 2009 from 4 pm to 5 pm, a new conference given by Mr Nabil Ben Nessib, Professor of Physics at the INSAT (National Institute of Applied Sciences of Tunis), Admission is free.

Synopsis:

During this conference, the most important stations which contributed to the historical development of astronomy will be reviewed. It is important to know that since the dawn of time, stars have had on humanity boundless fascination. The Babylonians, Egyptians, Greeks and the Arabs have tried to break down the mystery of the stars and decipher their mysteries. They have established the lunar and solar calendars and made theories to explain the movement of stars and their position in the sky. But the real revolution came from the idea that had Glileo Galilei in 1609 to produce the first glasses, once invented by Dutch scientists to observe the sky.
Since then, astronomy has evolved paving the way for eminent scientists such as Kepler, Descartes, Cassini, Huygens, Newton and Einstein. But it was Edwin Hubble that the great merit lies in discovering other galaxies outside our Milky Way and showing the expansion of the universe.
